All forms of therapy listed on this site are included and a typical treatment lasts 60-90 minutes. Thaddeus Ekdahl's TCM services are recognized by all the major health insurance companies in Switzerland. However, it is recommended that you check with your insurance provider in advance about the exact benefits of your coverage.

Course of therapy

In order to get a detailed report of your condition, Thaddeus Ekdahl carries out a detailed physical examination at the beginning of your treatment. Experience shows that the fastest and most successful treatment results are achieved when the most effective acupuncture approaches from traditional Chinese (i.e., meridians) and Western medicine (i.e., anatomy) are combined. Along with the Chinese massage of Tui.na, 'Soft Touch' massage technique specially developed by Thaddeus Ekdahl works with the muscles and gently relieves tension and pain. Additionally, microcurrent massage and ultrasound therapy may be integrated depending on your symptoms.

Health insurance approval

The  services provided by “Acupuncture and Health” are largely covered when one has supplemental coverage for complementary and alternative medicine.

TCM Diagnosis

In order to get a holistic picture of your health, we use traditional methods such as analyzing the tongue, feeling the radial pulse rate and palpating pressure points. Modern methods such as blood pressure measurement and electronic assessment of the meridians may also be used.

Acupuncture

Super-fine needles made of sterilized stainless steel stimulate specific points that lie on energy lines, or so-called meridians, to loosen muscle knots (trigger points) as well as to activate blockages.

The needles we use are generally thinner and less painful than those used in many other practices. They are used only one time before being permanently disposed of. In some cases, a gentle electrical stimulation may also be used directly on the needles to enhance their effect.

Laser therapy

In laser therapy, red light is directed painlessly into the body via optical fibers. These are stuck to the skin with applicators and then radiate precisely into the area to be treated.

This makes so-called “laser needles” also suitable for patients with needle phobia. This low level light therapy can be used simultaneously on any combination of points on the body, head and ear and are comparable to acupuncture needles in terms of their cerebral and peripheral stimulations effects. Originally only conceived as an idea for painless acupuncture, laser needles are now used in medical specialties such orthopedics, sports medicine, gynecology, ENT and dermatology.

Microcurrent / Color Therapy

This needle-free form of therapy utilizes gentle electrical stimulation by way of electrodes or probes to balance the body and meridians.

FSM – Frequency Specific Microcurrent therapies use a unique combination of dual streams of micro-current and specific colors of light. This creates a “high-low Hz” biological resonance effect, targeting specific body tissues and systems, coined Micro-Light treatments.

Chinese Herbs / Nutrition

Considered "special foods,” herbs can be taken as teas, tinctures, powders, capsules, or pills and can be used in liniments, extracts, and plasters. They are very effective in nourishing, strengthening and regulating the body. Herbs are generally considered very safe and have been time-tested, often for hundreds of years. Naturally, it is very important that you let your therapist know about all medications you are presently taking so as to avoid any contraindications.

Moxabustion

A compacted Chinese herb called Ai Ye (mugwort) is warmed and then placed over the skin to facilitate healing. The heated herb’s purpose is to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of energy, and maintain general health, including the immune system. Furthermore, several research studies show that the effectiveness of moxibustion is related to the modulation of autonomic nervous system, especially the sympathetic nervous system.

Tuina Massage

Techniques such as Tuina massage and acupressure are used to relax muscles, break up scar tissue and to positively influence the flow of energy in the body via the meridian system.

Unlike Western massage techniques, Tuina goes beyond the muscles, bones, and joints to work with the body on a deeper, energetic level. Your energy is sensed with the practioner’s hands in order to improve its flow and distribution. Tui Na massage is often used in combination with acupuncture and/or cupping.

Cupping

A so-called cupping glass creates a suction so that the skin and superficial muscle layers are drawn into the glass to increase the flow of stagnated blood and lymph.  Cupping is often used to reduce stiffness and pain and to relieve symptoms such as asthma, arthritis, bronchitis, and abdominal pain. It has been popular in Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern cultures going back thousands of years.

Detox Footbath

Nowadays it is more important than ever to support the body in removing pollutants. The process of electrolysis gives hydrogen in the footbath’s water a positive charge which then attracts the negatively charged toxins in your body, similar to how a magnet works. This allows the toxins to be excreted out through the thousands of sweat glands on the bottoms of your feet.
